Tai Chi Thursdays start at the Galena ARC Sept. 2

GALENA, Ill. ˗ Experience the ancient practices of Tai Chi and Qigong at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday at the Galena Art & Recreation Center, 11084 U.S. Highway 20, Galena, Ill.

Amy Alderman of Ài Tai Chi will lead Tai Chi Thursdays with basic moves training, a short form and mind/body skills.

Classes will also continue in September on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the City of Galena’s historic Turner Hall.

Alderman is a certified practitioner of the Tai Chi Fundamentals Adapted Program (TCFA), a curriculum designed by Tai Chi Master Tricia Yu, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Created through decades of practice in traditional Yang Style Tai Chi, clinical research and evidence-based practice, the program is largely intended for instructors and therapists leading people of all ages with a diverse range of abilities in the practice of Tai Chi.

Tai Chi and Qigong can be applied to improving overall wellness, balance, orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, pain management, mental wellness (including post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury), chronic health conditions, cardiovascular and respiratory rehabilitation, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, MS, Parkinson’s, and sports rehabilitation.

Students are welcome to join whether they are looking to build strength, cross-train, learn new calming methods, and/or are looking for a positive community experience.

Each class is $10. Punch cards will also be available for purchase. First-timers are welcome to try a class for free. Military discounts are available. A sliding scale based on what fits your budget is also fine. No questions asked.

Masks are required.
